Because this industry is full of false identities––people claiming they’re experts because they’ve taken some online course or been to a few corporate events.
Would you go to a dentist who learned how to do a root canal via YouTube?
Maybe that sounds extreme but it’s painfully expensive when SEO doesn’t work––a root canal from Dr. YouTube might seem a better fate.
I’ve been in the digital marketing industry since 2004. I started with a company called Contractors.com. I sat in an SEO meeting and was blown away by Google’s algorithms, which weren’t even near as sophisticated as they are now.
Since then, I’ve seen as many changes in Internet search engines as our grandparents have in what humanity complains about.
For years, I helped several companies optimize their marketing efforts and I saw some things I’d rather forget.
In fact, I saw too much.
Terrible sites with terrible flaws meant bad Internet––for the whole world. That’s not what was supposed to happen.
I threw in the towel and branched out on my own.
I packed up years of knowledge and experience and set forth into the wild country of Entrepreneurship. Have you ever been portaging in Algonquin? It was kind of like that but without shoes, a jacket, or any safety supplies, just a few peanuts in my pocket to keep me going. (If you’re an entrepreneur you know what I’m talking about––those first days aren’t the easiest).
Marketing guru Roland Gau said, “if at some point you don’t ask yourself, ‘what have I gotten myself into’ then you’re not doing it right.” That made me feel better.
I forged on.
In 2011, I started Logical Mix to create better websites. Built-in, on-page SEO was my giant to feed. At a time when a lot of black-hats dominated the industry, I was focused on creating cleaner methods to getting people to the top of the search engine results page (SERP). I stayed grounded in my conviction to create a better Internet one website at a time.
For nearly eight years I’ve been learning, building, creating, teaching, and helping organizations grow their businesses online.

Hey! I’m Colleen, content creator for Logical Mix.
I’m also a digital nomad. I’m one of those people who lives in different places all over the world because I can develop and execute my craft remotely. The only things I need are my laptop and an internet connection. I also don’t have children or many possessions tying me to one location so I’m free to explore the world.
A nomadic lifestyle wasn’t always my jam though; I used to be a teacher in Canada. I also once lived in Indonesia for two years teaching kindergarten. I even wrote a book about it.
Speaking of writing…
I make my living and indulge my talents through writing, all the while living in SouthEast Asia (mostly) nearby awesome beaches and jungle trekking. You might be surprised by how many people live this way. Although difficult to measure, one online source predicts that by 2035 there will be as many as 1 billion digital nomads worldwide.
Discovering that this way of life was possible was like stumbling upon a $100 bill in the middle of a deserted street. Of course I’m going to pocket it, though I might feel slightly guilty for having encountered such luck.
But it wasn’t all luck. I worked and read and studied and talked to other writers and people living the lifestyle. For months I pounded the crap outta my keyboard (for peanuts) to become a better writer and to build a reputation. Thankfully, people liked my work and my profession grew organically.
Over the past few years I have dipped into various niches for different clients: Health and wellness, traditional medicine, yoga, insurance, travel, fashion, adult toys. I’ve helped people sell their product or service every time.
They (nay) say there are rules about sticking to one niche. I disagree. While becoming a hardcore expert in one thing has advantages, I prefer to become a softcore expert in several subjects to help as many people as possible succeed.
Teaming up with Logical Mix was a natural and exciting progression in my freelance writing career. Now I have deeper SEO knowledge (learned from the best!), which I integrate into every piece of copy I write.
